Welcome to my blog. I've just moved back to Bradford after a 21 year absence and wanted somewhere to post thoughts, memories and pictures of this rapidly changing town.
A little bit of history. I was born in Bradford in 1968 in St Lukes Hospital. We lived in Lidget Green in a terrace house then moved briefly to a semi in Clayton before finally settling at 113 Whiteways just off Bolton Lane. I lived there with my parents, sister and later my brother until I left home at 19 to go to Birmingham Polytechnic. I lived in Birmingham, Rugby, Reading, Staines, Morden (South London) and Slough before deciding to move back to Bradford as I turned 40.
Why back to Bradford you might ask? Most of the people who live here can't understand why I wanted to return to Bradford. Well, my family are here and a lot of my oldest friends live here still. Originally I my intention was just to move back to Yorkshire but then I thought 'why the hell not just move back to Bradford?'. I know the place fairly well, I'll see my family more if I live in the City and it's very conveniant for the Yorkshire Dales. It's also no worse than anywhere else I've ever lived despite people I've spoken to insisting it's a shit hole. It's sad to say but it doesn't get much better than this unless you have a very large income and can afford to live in a village somewhere. Even then the sheer snobbery of village life would make most people reach for the carving knife and go on a killing spree.
